37 Indian Soldiers Killed By Naga Separatists

Dimapur, NagalandIn a significant escalation of tensions in the Northeast, the National Socialist Council of Nagalim (Isak-Muivah) [NSCN-IM] has claimed responsibility for an ambush that resulted in the deaths of 37 Indian Army soldiers in the Dima Hasao district of Assam. The incident occurred amidst ongoing hostilities between India and Pakistan, adding another layer of complexity to the region’s security dynamics.

The ambush took place near the village of Laisong, a remote area close to the Assam-Nagaland border. According to local sources, a convoy of Indian Army personnel was en route to a forward operating base when it was attacked by heavily armed NSCN-IM cadres. The insurgents reportedly used improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and automatic weapons, leading to a prolonged firefight that lasted several hours.

In a statement released to the press, NSCN-IM spokesperson Major Hutovi Chishi Swu stated, “This operation was a direct response to the Indian Army’s continued violations of our sovereignty and the recent killings of our cadres during the so-called ceasefire period. The Naga people will no longer remain passive in the face of aggression.”

The Indian Army has yet to release an official statement regarding the incident. However, sources within the defense establishment have confirmed the loss of personnel and indicated that reinforcements have been dispatched to the area to secure the region and prevent further attacks.

This attack comes on the heels of a recent clash in the Dima Hasao district, where three NSCN-IM members were reportedly killed by Indian security forces. The NSCN-IM has accused the Indian government of violating the ceasefire agreement signed in 1997, which has been under strain due to ongoing skirmishes and a lack of progress in peace talks.MorungExpress+1Telegraph India+1

The resurgence of violence in the Northeast raises concerns about the stability of the region, especially given the broader context of heightened tensions between India and Pakistan. Analysts warn that the Indian government may need to reassess its approach to the Naga insurgency to prevent further deterioration of the situation.

This is a developing story. More updates will follow as information becomes available.
